Tumblr gives you complete control over all aspects of your blog, and once you know some HTML, you can make them look pretty much any way you want! On the other hand, many of us would rather benefit from the skills of the thousands of brilliant designers whose work is featured in the Tumblr Theme Garden.
The top themes of 2011 were…

If we had to pick one singular feature as being key to Lucy Topham’s appeal, it would be a close call between her milky, flawless skin and her dreamy doe eyes. But inevitably, the eyes would have it.
A fresh face at Australian model agency Chadwick Models, Topham’s softly captivating looks strike on the Monroe-esque combination of childlike innocence and come-hither allure. She posed for Kelly Defina‘s lens for this series of tests.

The infamous Pirelli calendar was revealed earlier this month in New York city showing models Saskia de Brauw, Milla Jovovich, Kate Moss, and Lara Stone posing sans clothing on the island of Corsica. The girls all stayed together in a house on the island as they took turns shooting with Sorrenti. The calendar was shot by Mario Sorrenti and behind the scenes pictures were just released by Pirelli to give us a better look at the shoot. This was Kate Moss’s second time appearing in the calendar which shoots some of the world’s most beautiful women and is not readily available to the public. It is given to special people including celebrities and royals like Prince Andrew. The theme of the shoot was “Swoon” where Sorrenti said the bodies were put directly in contact with nature, compared to last years Greek and Roman mythology theme.

[Yes, I do realize that this is well over a month behind…]
Phoebe Philo has this remarkable ability to transform a relatively unassuming (and unfortunately forgettable at times) house into something practical and relevant and more importantly, utterly covetable. There an undeniably chic quality to Céline this season. Her study of “strength, proportion, and a woman’s form” is wonderfully executed with sophisticated aplomb. But what I truly love about Philo’s vision for Céline is how organic it feels. The lack of influence or inspiration to it makes it all the more refreshing after a long series of shows (they all start to blend together after a while). With a clean palette, Philo is able to give us a collection that showcases a practical sort of sophistication supported by a particularly brilliant technique. And her technique is exquisite.
If nothing else, Phoebe Philo’s concept of line and structure is superb. Her Spring 2012 has all the ease of a Sunday morning, providing a great sense of luxury and leisure. Heavier fabrics are reworked into effortlessly polished looks perfectly suited for spring; tailored leather pieces–a specialty of hers–turn unbelievably supple and convey chic elegance. I love the asymmetry that she introduces, leaving a fluttery trail of fabric in the model’s wake. Something about a fluttering train totally signals spring to me; it must be the airiness of the movement. And she offers a fantastic version of the peplum to boot; the “abstracted peplums” (Mower) or “basques” as she calls them are fabulously weighty. There is some serious volume to them. Certainly nothing like the flirty feminine peplums some have shown this season. I find the abstract, slightly futuristic take all the more enchanting for Philo’s lack of romantic flight of fancy.
Abstract peplums aren’t the only thing to love about Céline this season. I am sort of in love with the silhouette of the first couple of looks. Trust Phoebe Philo to make me delight in the idea of a sturdy, structured coat for spring. There is something indulgently avant garde about the sloped silhouette with its exaggerated rounded shoulders and curved sleeves, trellised flourishes subtly embossed onto rich cream or deep Merlot. And I love the bit of weight to the structured coats, giving it much more presence than the tissue-thin light concoctions usually seen in the spring shows. Moreover, solid suede platforms grounding the entire collection without overwhelming the look; they add just the right amount of strength and balance to sheathed excesses of fabric. Another exquisitely proportioned for collection for the ever-chic Phoebe Philo.
Welcome to Chanel under the sea.
Karl Lagerfeld indulges in an aquatic whimsy this season, complete with glimmering coral and gleaming white sand. [Trust the Kaiser to herald the next great influence.] Mais oui, he gives us a rather dreamy poetic perspective of the ocean floor with the models emerging like seas goddesses from the mysterious underworld caves. But what I love the most is how Lagerfeld has transformed iconic Chanel classics, deconstructing the signature tweed jackets and famous pearl strands. The iconic boxy Chanel jacket is modernized with shimmering waffled fabrics in a lovely palette of “sea foam, shell pink, and mother-of-pearl.” [That particular shade of sea foam is oh so pretty and very perfect for spring.] Largerfeld puts his not-so-inconsiderable technique to work, adding resplendent texture to structured tweed and frothy organza. It is quite lovely how the light hits this iridescent pieces in just the right way, giving this entire collection a rather ethereal glow about it. The textured knits provide an intriguing sense of depth to the collection and add to the fantasy the fantastical sea world Lagerfeld builds.
Moreover, I adore how this collection is liberally festooned with pearls. Rather than luxuriously draping them across the throat, he cast them in an edgier light by placing them on a model’s face like an opulent piercing while the understated elegance of pearl earrings has given way to intricately fierce ear cuffs. I see them more as part of Chanel beauty rather than accessory. It reminds me of how the Kaiser did tattooed pearl strands and chains back in Spring 2010. He always manages to take seemingly incongruous things and fit them to the Chanel aesthetic. All in all, this a fabulously frothy collection with plenty of pretty to satisfy both the ladies-who-lunch and the ever-trendy socialite.
Oh, and how fantastic does Florence Welch look performing?
